This is a beautiful Sterling silver walnut shell on a heavy 18inch belcher chain secured with a lobster clasp. The rough shell surface catches the light, and the reverse side is oxidized to a dark grey, this creates a contrast and mystery when you turn the piece around.
Oxidization is done using an acidic liquid which is painted on and reacts with the silver to make silver oxide, the liquid is then washed away leaving the surface a dark grey color.
I cast the walnut, from a real one, using the lost wax casting technique in a shared workshop and then hand finished the item with care in my home studio. Lost wax casting is an ancient process that produced very fine details. The walnut has kept it's detail, but it's in shiny silver!
This piece is large and heavy and looks fantastic paired with a dark top, it is suitable for any gender, and has a little touch of rock and roll.
